Claudio Marenzi, the CEO of Herno, has expressed all his patriotism taking a new way for a good reason: to produce and donate about 25.000 face masks and 10.000 gowns every month for the doctors and the staff of the hospitals in Piedmont in agreement with the local prefecture. This is the aid of the outerwear brand in the fight against Covid-19. An aid that has been achieved, highlights Marenzi, thanks to the commitment of his production staff that has worked hard, turn based and with traditional techniques, without any specific machinery.

In Florence, the historical brand of the city, Salvatore Ferragamo, is committed to produce and donate 100.000 antibacterial, non-woven face masks, 50.000 pieces of hand sanitizer and 3.000 FPP1 masks to the local healthcare companies in agreement with the Tuscany Region.

From the 18th March to the 6th April, the Prada Group has produced 80.000 gowns and 110.000 masks to be devoted to the medical staff of the Tuscany Region ensuring daily deliveries. The production took place in the Prada Montone facility in Perugia that has been operative to face the emergency.

From the 20th March, Ermanno Scervino launched on Instagram the slogan #insiemecelafaremo (#togetherwecandoit) announcing that the tailoring of the brand has started the production of face masks. On its e-commerce, you can purchase the Fashion Masks that represent the flags of the world and the claim #strongertogether, the sale of which will support two excellence of the city of Florence: the Meyer Paediatric Hospital and the care home for the elderly Montedomini.

Peuterey,the outerwear brand based in Altopascio, keeps its production facility open with a lower level of activity to produce face masks for the Civil Protection and neighbouring municipalities, but also protective, heat-taped suits and gowns after the increase in help requests. The brand bought also new machinery to reach 10 thousand pieces every week and it has participated to the #CuraItalia call, the Invitalia measure to support the production and supply of medical devices for individual protection to limit the Covid-19 transmission.

The production plant of the Bolognese brand Les Copains makes available its resources to join the filter masks production made of non-washable fabric. The beneficiaries are workers of other companies in Emilia Romagna that offer essential goods and have to keep on working, especially in Parma and Piacenza that have been strongly affected by the virus.

The Bolognese lingerie brand, La Perla, has donated 10.000 masks to the frontline workers of its beloved hometown. In addition to this, there are also other 10 thousand masks for the Porto City Hall Field Hospital in Portugal. The brand donates 10% on each order purchased on to the solidarity fund for the fight against Covid-19, organized by the United Nations Foundation and the Swiss Foundation of Philanthropy.

The Calzedonia Group jumped into a real challenge and has converted some of its production facilities to produce masks and gowns. The hosiery-renowned group bought new, special machinery to create a semi-automatic line and has trained the seamstresses this new kind of production. Thanks to this new organization, the group will produce around 10.000 each day. The first masks have been donated to the Verona Hospital and the City of Verona.

The Florentine company, Stefano Ricci, committed to bring concrete help to those who need it and, for this reason, it has donated one million surgical masks to the Italian Civil Protection (also thanks to the partnership with the Lyu family through the Richl society). In addition, the company has devolved ten ventilators.  


The giant Kering and LVMH have participated as well to support the fight against Covid-19. The group led by Arnault gave 3 million surgical masks to France’s health services. In addition, a financial donation was made to the Institut Pasteur, to the four major hospital foundation in Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany and Lazio and to the Hubei Red Cross Foundation in China to support research into Covid-19.

Each brand of the group has contributed to the aid. In response to the appeal of the Tuscany Region, Gucci has provided 1.100.000 masks and 55 thousand gowns, while in France, Balenciaga and Saint Laurent started producing surgical masks for the French hospitals.

On the LVMH front, the Louis Vuitton ateliers opened, thanks to volunteer artisans, to produce hundreds of thousands of protective masks for the health care workers who are managing the Coronavirus emergency in France.

In the long list of the brands that are opening their facilities to produce masks to stop the spread of the Coronavirus and support the supply in France, Chanel and Dior are not missing.

Another hand for the French hospitals, but also the European and American ones, to fight the spread of Covid-19 comes from Sandro with the sustainable choice of the founder and artistic director, Evelyne Chetrite, of producing masks with the excess fabric from past seasons. Sandro distribution includes 10.000 masks for the non-medical, hospital staff, but also washable and reusable tissue masks for the workers of the technical service and the administrative and social personnel. The support goes on. In agreement with the local health authorities, each Friday, the brand offers breakfast to the hospital staff of the most affected structures in Madrid, Paris, London, Berlin and New York.

Also the English brand Burberry supports the fight against Covid-19. The brand gave 100.000 surgical masks to the hospital staff of the health service in the UK and has converted its Castleford facilities, in the Yorkshire, to make gowns and non-surgical masks for the patients of the UK hospitals. In addition to this, the brand has financed the research into a single dose vaccine developed by the Oxford University, one among the worldwide leaders of the development of vaccines in emergency situations, and made donations to UK charities who take care of providing food aid to the most needy, among them there are FareShare and The Felix Project.

The shoe brand New Balance converted part of its production in the American facilities to develop generic-use masks with the aim of producing up to 100.000 pieces every week. In addition, the development team is looking for certifiable materials that can be used also by the frontline medical staff and for protective equipment like clothes and shoe covers.

Together with the big luxury groups, also the fast fashion brands converted their facilities to face the emergency. Among them, the Spanish group Inditex and Mango. Mango has donated 2 million masks to the Ministry of Health and has made available its logistical capacity to distribute them to the busiest structures to stop the spread of Covid-19.
