The city of Sestriere is the highest of Italy, with an elevation of more than 2000 MASL. Together with the cities of Salice d’Ulzio, Sansicario, Cesana, Claviere and Montgenevre, the town forms the Vialattea district (Milky Way district, isn’t it suggestive?) with more than 70 ski slopes which means more than 400km of Winter sports fun! The story of Sestriere is quite fun: back in the 1930s the area wasn’t as fashionable as today, on the contrary it wasn’t popular and the Agnelli family bought several plots paying them only 40 cents each – they intended for it to become a sort of vacation spot for their FIAT employees. Fate had something different in store for Sestriere: not only it has become one of the most famous and fashionable places of Italy, but it is the only one where it’s possible to skii at night. Who could ask for more?
