THE FASHION SAFE TREND: A BOOM OF ANTIVIRAL FABRICS

How many people with the emergence of Coronavirus have changed their habits from the disinfection of the office desk, take off the shoes out of the home up to undress in the hallway? Media, who more drastically than others, alarmed us about the fact the virus contaminates fabrics and can survive for hours on clothes, even if no one has been able to certainly say how long it effectively resists on them. Some would say a few hours, some suspects up to 24, some hazards up to 2-3 days and this lack of certainty increases our concerns and insecurities.

What everybody agrees, both the most gullible and the bold, is that since the word Coronavirus entered hard-hitting our heads, we no longer feel safe in our clothes. This is a serious problem since what we wear accompanies us from morning to evening, from the train to the office up to the home’s sofa. We cannot go on dividing the home in “buffer zone”, where we leave all the objects that could be contaminated, and “living areas”, so it is necessary to find a solution that will let us live happy and safe and this is what the textile companies are doing by offering the market antiviral and antibacterial clothes.

We are talking about a real revolution in the clothing field. Also when the Coronavirus will be just a paragraph in a school book, those who have personally experienced it will not be indifferent and delete immediately all the behaviors that we have shortly adopted in such a drastic way. In addition, even if we all wish that this enemy will be beaten as soon as possible, we are not sure about it and we will have to continue to follow and respect the rules.

The antiviral technology that is conquering the textile world in this moment is from the Swiss HeiQ company. The treatment is called Viroblock NPJ03 and its combination between vesicles and silver ion allows to inhibit and kill viruses and bacteria in a few minutes. This is very useful especially in sensitive environments, but also in daily life, since the virus cannot proliferate, and it is possible to reduce the risk of transmission. Also, the treatment is aggressive against viruses, but it is harmless for the skin and the environment.

Brass is for the virus like the garlic is for the vampires. Experts claim that some viruses, among them the Covid-19 and SARS-CoV-2, resist shortly on this metal and, for this reason, Texe Srl company in Florence, that produces metallic fabrics, has developed a 100% bare brass or bare brass with the addition of textile fibers to reduce the virus’ spread.   If in such a short time, it as been possible to experiment all this, what more can we discover with the technology in the next months?
