9. BORROMEAN ISLANDS
The archipelago of the Borromean Islands is located in Lake Maggiore and consists of three islands: Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori. The small fishermen’s island is the only one inhabited all year round while the other two can only be visited from the end of March until the end of October. All the islands can be reached by boat from Stresa, Arona, Pallanza, Locarno and Laveno. On the Isola Madre, you can admire the sumptuous palace and the beautiful English gardens. The building is furnished with precious furnishing from various residences of the Borromeo family with decors belonging to the 16th and 17th centuries. Isola Bella is famous for its paradisiacal Italian gardens that grow on terraces set at different levels with statues and stone staircases that create a scenographic scene of rare beauty.
